Wednesday watch: Grandma

It can be hard to find a straightforward abortion story in film and TV. The delightful dramedy “Grandma” provides that, and so much more. Lily Tomlin plays a recently widowed lesbian grandmother who spends the day trying to help her teenage granddaughter scrounge up $630 to pay for an abortion. Tomlin is hilarious and touching, and the cast is rounded out with fantastic performances by Julia Garner, Sam Elliott, Judy Greer and Marcia Gay Harden. It’s a sweet movie that “passes the Bechdel test with flying colors” and treats abortion, grief and relationships with both sensitivity and humor. Watch the trailer.
