Wednesday watch: 13th

Ava DuVernay’s 13th is a sobering and necessary look at the throughline from slavery to mass incarceration. DuVernay’s stellar group of experts, including Angela Davis, Michelle Alexander, Bryan Stevenson and Van Jones, walk you through the steps from slavery to Jim Crow to the exploding prison-industrial complex and the devastating impact it’s had on communities of color. There’s also a chilling segment on Donald Trump that is required viewing for anyone who doesn’t understand why so many communities are terrified at his election victory.

Check out the trailer below, and watch the whole film on Netflix.
